From Christina…My youngest baby was quickly approaching ONE and I realized that this was my last chance to have fun with a theme for my sweet little girl. A friend had tagged me in a post on a buy and sell page of a French Macaron costume for sale, created by another crafty mom. I immediately bought it and the theme bloomed from there.

The idea was to create a beautiful vintage chic French market feel so that people could be welcomed, come and eat, visit with eachother and feel free to sit and stay or grab a cupcake and be on their way. I love the mingling atmosphere of a cocktail party, but kid style for a first birthday. It puts no pressure on baby to “perform” and have too many people around them at any given time as they usually are overwhelmed on this occassion.
I was inspired by the streets of Paris, the shop windows, the decadent desserts, the cheese (always the cheese) and the bread. As the owner and creator at the cocoa cakery, I realized this was an opportunity to create the Parisian look I’d always wanted to see, with out the need to have any Eiffle towers in my design.
With the help of an amazing vendor team we created stations for drinks both cold and hot, a “formagerie & hors d’heuvres” station and a beautiful cake and sweets booth set up on a vintage looking cart provided by Sweethearts Sugar Carts, a welcome vignette and a seating area.
A long picnic/harvest style table was set up for guests to relax and enjoy their nibbles and sweets.
The back wall of the venue was created with hand drawn “patisserie” windows, as though you’re in front of a store, complete with handmade awnings and window boxes. The natural peak of the room and light created the perfect atmosphere for this intimate little party.
A floral chandelier was also handmade from an old drum shade, pearls and brightly coloured florals.
Southern Charm Vintage Rentals provided all the perfect pieces to complete the look. Cheese & tea crates, vintage telephone, along with tiered stands, and our flower market stand with sap buckets brought all the details together perfectly.
Guests were asked to sign a globe for baby Ruth and fill out a little sheet with blessings and wishes for her as she grows.
The invitation was hand drawn by her mamma and was also the inspiration for the colours and general design of the party.
The sweet table by the cocoa cakery was made up of three oranate mini cakes laden with soft pink sugar flowers and dripping with hand painted blue watercolour design. The cupcakes were piped buttercream flowers and edible mini pearls. A giant buttercream macaron was the smash cake, which Ruth delicately sat and ate, bite by bite.
Little Ruth’s paternal Grandmother created all the adorable individual sized parfaits which were made from vanilla yogurt and jello, as a nod to the layered jello she is famous for making at party’s.
Cookie favours were also ready to go out to guests as they left.
