I don’t event know where to begin with Laura and Andrew but let’s just say that I could easily become a close friend to them. They are so sweet, humble and in love that you just want to be around them all of the time. They tied the knot on a rainy day last September in the cozy Niagara-on -the-lake, which has become my home away from home during busy wedding season. They were definitely on top of it all, they did all the planning themselves and all the DIY projects as well and I couldn’t believe how stunning everything looked. I was so happy to see it all unfold into this gorgeous and loving celebration. One of my favourite moments from their wedding day was when Laura was sitting down and her mother was helping her put on her shoes and her mom got emotional and said that it reminded her of the millions of times she helped Laura put on her hockey skates as a child. And obviously everyone was really emotional, me as well and it’s why I love what I do so much because i get to share in these beautiful life moments with families and there is nothing else I would rather do in this world. I’m always always striving to capture these in-between moments that will help tell the story, even years to come.

About our Wedding:
When Andrew and I were planning our wedding we wanted it to be an intimate celebration with family and close friends. We chose our venue because we loved the cozy feeling it had. We’ve always enjoyed visiting wineries when we have free time, and knew the vineyard would be lush and green for our September wedding. Initially we were hoping to have an outdoor wedding, but we also loved Cave Spring’s Vineyard because their indoor retreat was a comfortable, light and beautiful solution for inclement weather- which we had. A lot of the decor we had for our wedding was DIY, as we wanted our wedding to have a rustic yet elegant theme. We chose muted colours – grays, whites, pinks and greens.
We mainly chose our Reception Venue based off of our past experiences eating at the Restaurant at Inn on the Twenty. We both love food, and knew our guests would be happy to eat here for our wedding— we also loved the window view behind our head table into the Jordan Valley.
For our flowers, Ooh La La Designs created lovely bouquets and center pieces with dahlias, garden roses, spray roses & succulents. The boutonnieres were made with succulents and garden roses as well.
We had such a great experience planning our ceremony – our officiant was very accommodating and knowledgeable. We were able to include a few special readings which meant a lot to Andrew and I, and really epitomized how we feel about marriage and our lives together – including the Hands Passage. Our ceremony also felt extra special for us as we were able to include renditions of modern-day songs for our processional and recessional…all played out by a string trio. I can’t even keep track of the amount of compliments we received about the string trio and their performance. They were fantastic! A few of our favourites that they played included: Home (Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes), Ho Hey (The Lumineers) & Chasing Cars (Snow Patrol). Having these songs played instead of traditional wedding songs really made us feel like it was our own day.
Our favourite things about our wedding were definitely the small details— the little extra things we wanted, including a special donut dessert crafted just for us by the pastry chef at Inn on the Twenty. Choosing something Andrew and I both love for dessert made our wedding feel unique and surprised all of our guests (plus, who doesn’t love donuts?). We spent a lot of time making favours for our guests- tiny succulent planters made of concrete and hand-dipped in paint. I love seeing them now when I go over to friend’s houses- it feels like a special reminder of our day!
